Distance | 343 meters | 298 meters |

Requires a strong tee shot to start with as you will drive into a short hill at the 150 metre mark, (to the green). If you can drive it over the hill off the tee, Men 210 / Women 170 metres, you should be left with a short iron to the green, which is guarded by two bunkers on the right and one on the left. There are bunkers either side of the fairway at the 200/160 metre mark off the tee, with out of bounds right of the trees right side of fairway.
Hole 2
Men’s | Women’s | |

Par | 4 | 4 |
Distance | 356 meters | 262 meters |
Rated | 5 | 11 |
A dogleg left fairway. If you can draw the ball off the tee, this is the play for you. To do so should leave you with a mid to short iron to a very demanding and firm green, well protected by bunkers in front and either side. The right greenside bunker is deep. Cut the ball off the tee (right handers) and you could finish up in the GUR sand pit at the 150 metre mark.

It does not take much to overshoot this green and go into the back bunker. There is also a bunker, front right of the green. Played from an elevated tee, this hole generally plays with the breeze from behind or slight left to right. Club selection, considering pin placement and wind conditions, is critical.
Hole 4
Men’s | Women’s | |

Par | 4 | 4 |
Distance | 354 meters | 315 meters |

This slight dogleg right fairway requires a good drive off the tee. A solid shot should leave you with a short to mid iron to the green. There are two green side bunkers on the right and one to the left. OOB and the picturesque wetlands, runs the entire length of the hole on the right. There is also a large mound left and short of the green which, if you catch it, will stop your ball running to the green.
Hole 5
Men’s | Women’s | |

Par | 4 | 4 |
Distance | 295 meters | 244 meters |
Rated | 14 | 16 |
A very picturesque hole playing to a dogleg right fairway. This hole will present the big hitter with the challenge of going directly for the green, carrying massive bunkers from 200m to the 255m mark or playing a solid drive down the left hand side of the dogleg, which should leave you with a short iron to the green. A clean front apron, the green is surrounded by large mounds and a deep bunker on the left. The bunker left will catch many an errant shot. OOB and the wetlands, is on the right side of this fairway.

A slight dogleg right hole, you will need a solid tee shot to reach the top of the first of the two levels on this fairway, about 220m from the tee. Big hitters should make the green from the top level. Playing short with your second shot should leave you with a short pitch to a two-
Hole 8
Men’s | Women’s | |

Par | 4 | 5 |
Distance | 421 meters | 421 meters |
Rated | 2 | 9 |
The number one rated hole at Sale for men. The tee shot must be long to have a chance at reaching the green in regulation. There are no bunkers on this straight and flat fairway, but the green has tricky undulations to negotiate. OOB right for the tee shot adds to the difficulty, too far left off the tee sees the green blocked by large trees.
Hole 9
Men’s | Women’s | |

Par | 4 | 4 |
Distance | 326 meters | 326 meters |
Rated | 10 | 1 |
Playing with a draw, a long iron or hybrid is required for this tee shot, as the fairway doglegs to the left. A mid to short iron should reach the putting surface, which is well protected by bunkers on the right and to the front. The high trees on the left of the fairway, at the sixty metre mark off the tee are renowned for catching those that try to cut the corner. A drive too long and straight could go OOB or, you will find that there are more high trees to negotiate on the right side of the dogleg. Again, a green well protected by bunkers for those wayward approach shots.
Hole 10
Men’s | Women’s | |

Par | 4 | 4 |
Distance | 334 meters | 323 meters |
Rated | 13 | 6 |
Possibly the most underrated hole on the course. The fairway has a slight dogleg to the right at 190 metres, causing many to try to carry the dogleg leaving a short but tricky second shot to another tricky, undulating green. The tendency is to come up short however, a shot too strong will leave you in deep rough behind the green. There are no bunkers on this hole.
Hole 11
Men’s | Women’s | |

Par | 3 | 3 |
Distance | 178 meters | 168 meters |
Rated | 12 | 13 |
A small bunker on the left front of the green can be a nuisance to a well struck shot off the tee. Generally, this hole plays straight into the prevailing wind and club selection will be based on wind strength. This green, as with the 15th green, has a different grass texture to others on the course and may catch the unwary of guard. Par on this hole is a very good score.
Hole 12
Men’s | Women’s | |

Par | 4 | 4 |
Distance | 381 meters | 330 meters |

A long tee shot is required on this slight dogleg left fairway to reach the down slope at 200m off the tee. But, if you can reach it, your shot could run down the slope to leave you with a short iron to the green. Playing to the right of centre on this fairway is smart play as this will open up the green for your next shot. This green is well protected by bunkers on the right side of the green. Short and left will see you in a grass bunker which leaves a more difficult chip. Through the green and you will be faced with a tricky downhill chip over a mound at the rear of the green. Visually a great looking hole.
Hole 13

Par | 4 | 4 |
Distance | 269 meters | 239 meters |
Rated | 17 | 12 |
A short and straight fairway going up a slight rise is seemingly irresistible for the golfer to hit long off the tee but, beware! Accuracy is not absolutely necessary but distance control for the second shot, a short pitch, is vital. Hitting the fairway gives you the optimum chance at distance control. Cut the ball off the tee and you could finish in sandy rough, driving too long and left leaves an extremely difficult pitch. Deep bunkers surround this green whilst deep rough is at the rear. Play the wrong club and this sleeper hole will catch you out.
Hole 14

This par three is well protected by two deep bunkers on the right of the green as well as a deep bunker left front. Through the green both long and left will leave you with a steep uphill chip or pitch. Wind often plays a big part in club selection on this hole with only a good shot finding the green. Par is a good score on this hole!

Par | 5 | 5 |

This innocuous looking hole has plenty of tricks for the unwary. Winding its way past the lake on the right side of the fairway, the fairway is both large and inviting however, cut the ball off the tee and you could finish in the lake. The second shot is played from the bottom of the hollow, past Gardiner’s tree on the left, up to a firm elevated green. Your third shot may need to be a chip and run rather than a pitch as this green is difficult to hit and hold. The easiest hole at Sale before beginning the very difficult home stretch.

The tree on the left of the fairway at 190m can cause trouble for the longer hitters. Too far right sees the fairway bottleneck blocking a second shot to the green. A well struck draw off the tee is preferred, which, if it catches the downslope at the 200m mark, could leave you with a long to midiron to a tricky uphill sloping green. There is a fairway bunker on the left, 50m short of the green.

A good drive to catch the down slope at the 190m mark may see the ball run down to the 150m marker. There is a big, deep fairway bunker on the left at 190m. Your mid iron shot must be placed below the pin on this huge, lightening quick putting surface. Anything above the hole will put you in three putt territory. There is a small nuisance bunker on the left of the green to be avoided with your approach shot.
